The Loogootee Lions basketball program has taken a few hits as of the last week:
1. Scott Reid (AD) is leaving to coach baseball at North Posey. He is going to be missed.
2. One of the best coaches in the program is stepping away for good. Coach K will be missed as he was the man that taught the basics in basketball.
I guess if they would have hired Josh Thompson they would not be looking for another AD, again. I guess they might just give it to someone that is already employed by the school to save more money. Good move, I doubt it. Oh well, I guess we can always use the old saying, "Wait Till Next Year"
What do they do about the 7th grade coaching position? Who knows, but this is going to be some BIG shoes to try and fill.
This info is coming from the "Downtown Coaches Assoc" so I am not sure that #2 is true or not. We all know that we are not suppose to base everythingon sports, but LHS is taken some HUGE hits as of lately. I guess we will have to wait and see how the program will adjust to the changes.

Played for Coach K many years back and he really had a knack for making you do the drills correctly. As like most athletes who played for him, we thought he was old and out of style, but once you get older and see what he was actually doing, you learn to appreciate what he did and how he did it. Our class was pretty good (23-3) as I remember and he really made sure that we kept our heads. The program will have to search real hard to find someone to fill his shoes, which probably can't be done. He was one of a kind, like Coach Butcher and you don't replace coaches like that with the same caliber coaches. I'm sure the current staff will take it's time and come up with a suitable replacement. They now have 4 ex-Lions players on staff at the 5-6-8 grade levels. (Not including Wininger and Wade on the hs staff) As for Reid, I thought he did a nice job, but maybe it's time to select someone local to do the AD job who will stick around and give the AD department some stability. Not knocking Reid, but I think everyone kind of had a feeling he would leave if he found the right job and I'm sure he will do well at N. Posey. Let's hope the administration does the right thing here.

I don't think the AD leaving is necessarily a big deal. Why is Lee Stepping down? That will be a big loss, if true.
Still, the varsity boys are going to be really good this year and this may be a case where the varsity success improves the grade program as opposed to the other way around.

First, losing Mr. Reid is a big deal. We need some fresh blood, he was from the outside, and he was always around. I know he was respected not only in town, but by other schools and rivals alike. He has received a great gig working for great people at North Posey.
Secondly, When Lee isn't on the sideline for the opening of the season, then I will believe he is done. I've talked to some close to the situation and they feel he will be back.

Lee will definatly be missed. The man BLEEDS basketball and always has. I believe he takes loosing as a personal failure. As for Reed , easy come easy go.

The greatest ad of all time can come in and Lee can coach until the end of time, but until the work ethic and the attitude changes in the kids it will be awhile before Loogootee basketball is back. Just one guys opinion.

I'd say it's going to be about 4 months until Loogootee basketball is back. They are going to be very strong this year.

Boy what a gloom and doom story from the "Downtown Coaches Assoc.". Scott Reid is replaceable and I know the perfect candidate if he's given a chance. Interestingly he works in North Posey school system and bleeds "black and gold". John Mullen we both know who this person is and he deserves a chance.
Scott Reid has been a dedicated and responsible AD and I'm sure he'll do a great job at North Posey as baseball coach, maybe we can do switcharoo with North Posey on this.
As for Coach Lee Kavanaugh, him leaving I'm believe it when I see it. He'll be teaching his "crip shot" until the day he dies!

Lagote74,
I assume you are referring to the Assistant Principal at North Posey.

Strong pedigree, whatever that's worth.
GO LOOGOOTEE GO!
