IHSAA add Tradition Factor

59 posts in this topic

We are getting off message boys, this is far from a done deal. Shoals is viable for at least three more years, in the meantime, some honest public school trying to maintain and build a program will be screwed by the dubious "success(jealousy) factor". Back on that subject I would have thought 8 pts which would be two state titles in row would have been more a sign of domination? How is winning one year going to semi-state second year after reclassification a sign of complete domination!?! IHSAA idiots, where the hell did that fricking Bobby Cox come from anyway?

I agree. That isn't domination at all. I would expect that many state champions win a Regional either the year before or the year after. The policy as written will just punish those teams... Unless that team is already in the top Class.

The policy would also punish perennial State runners-up, although I suspect there are very few such teams. The Buffalo Bills come to mind in the NFL...

Why think of it as punishment? Why not think of it as a promotion? The Loogootee that I knew would revel in the chance to move up the ladder and knock off some bigger schools.

I love reading the hypocrisy of those complaining about the new success factor but yet loving class basketball.

How many great sectionals were destroyed with a 13-5 vote in April, 1996? Who was punished by that crap? All so those who weren't competing at the time could add to their trophy cases.

The biggest problem with the IHSAA is now the self centeredness, if that's a word, of each school to vote solely for or against whatever is going to get them the most trophies.

The idiots in this state who destroyed the greatest sports treasure we had, the high school basketball tourney, are the same ones who voted in the success factor.

Too bad, so sad there Sectional 63. You all voted for this crap now have fun with the possibility of losing a team or two due to such huge success beating up on Shoals, Dubois, and Southwestern Shelby or whomever it takes to be a state champion now.

I'm telling you if this is the way it's going to be, I'd be all in favor of going back to single class, after all that in and of itself is the great equalizer! If your not good enough you don't win! We probably would have won the Washington Sectional and Regional this year anyway.

Loogootee lost to Barr-Reeve, Forest Park, Orleans and WRV. You might have lost in the first round of the old sectional also. And I doubt you would have gotten through the Regional as Crawford Co. was better than any of those 4 listed.

That's the problem with class basketball, you win a "state" championship that is incredibly watered down and people think they're better than they really are. Really does kids a great service when reality slaps them in the face at some point after all the fire truck rides and acclaim that really is overblown.

Yes, they work hard. Yes, they're great kids. Yes, they're talented. No, they really weren't that good comparatively speaking.

You need to do your homework there chump, we lost 3 of those 4 without Mathies, with him back we beat Barr-Reeve in sectional by 17, Orleans by 13 in regional, beat #2 Edinburgh, who was better than Forest Park. I don't remember seeing Crawford County in 3A regional at Washington, so I don't know where your coming from on that. Plus we beat Jasper who beat Forest Park, so you'd never know until you played them, but I'd like our chances against them at Washington single class regional, if the could have beaten Jasper, so you can go on an on. Oh and WRV shouldn't count we got screwed by referee's at that dark dump they call a gym. Besides WRV would have gone to Terre Haute regional in single class scenerio.

Loogootee got on such a good roll at the right time last year that it would have taken a really good team to beat them. I'll admit I don't remember exactly who the teams were that they might have met in the regional. At the end of the 1 class era it was Washington, Paoli, Southridge, and who else? Was it WRV? Was Providence not in the old Paoli sectional? So it likely would have been Loogootee, Jasper, Orleans or Crawford County (assuming Providence wasn't in the Paoli sectional), and Eastern Greene. That would have been a good regional, but certainly the Lions could have (probably would have) won it.

Agreed, it would have been winner at Crawford County / Salem, i believe they rotated, used to have Tell City, CC, Salem, Cannelton, North Harrison, I know i'm missing some other schools.

It wasn't WRV that came to Washington. What was the other one?

The winner at WRV went to Terre Haute regional in single class. Hatchet House had of course Washington winner, Paoli winner, Southridge winner, and either BNL winner or Crawford county/ Salem winner, BNL was the school until late 80's then it was CC/Salem winner.

Yes, that's right I remember now. Seems like it was usually North Harrison that came from Salem. Class ball hasn't been good for them, has it?

Yes North Harrison really benefited being put in the Salem/CC sectional, they won 5or 6 straight with a one regional title in '87. Previously they were in Floyd Central sectional, and almost never won even a game in that sectional.

Word is that the IHSAA is doing this due to all of the 'lawbreakers' ie...private schools who are openly recruiting. IF that is the case (but will never get any of the idiots at the IHSAA to admit), then it is even worse than what was initially thought. So, we have a sudden influx of private schools, they are recruiting left and right, whooping up on those schools who are abiding by the rules. IHSAA decides something must be done but the obvious, which is to punish/reprimand the offenders, is too toxic in light of the fact that most (not all) offenders bring a racial aspect into the mix. Sooooooo...the IHSAA whooses out and decides to PUNISH, yes, punish sports in general and ALL who participate rather than ONLY those who have 'illegally' and 'knowingly' designed teams w/massive talent while breaking every rule imaginable to do so creating the mess in the first place. Geezzzzzzzzzzzz...is there absolutely NO backbone left in anyone or any entity to do what most would consider the obvious and FAIR thing to do? I honestly do not think so. My word to the IHSAA is this: Go ahead, ruin sports at the high school level, watch the proceeds even further deteriorate and one day you'll 'stupid' yourselves right out of a job! That's it. I'm done!

This started as a proposial from the IFCA not as a answer to recruting but more do to with a the same schools winning state year after year, It also includes spliting 5A into two classes in football. The commisioner took the IFCA proposial tweaked it and came up with this. The original proposial also included seeding the top 2 teams in football sectionals.

This made more sense in football but the IHSAA likes to treat all sports the same so added the tradition factor to all sports insted of just football.

Why doesn't Loogootee manup and start playing football. The same can be said to South Knox, Bloomfield, and NE Dubois.

Don't tell me it costs too much. Dugger plays and they only have 125 students.

I would say that if enough of the citizens in Loogootee want to see football implemented, it will be. Evidently there aren't enough football fans in Loogootee to pressure the decision makers @ LHS. I will say that football is expensive and most times unless you have the student enrollment to support both football and basketball comfortably, it can damage both programs and a school ends up not being able to excel in either sport. You use Dugger as an example. Have not both their football and basketball programs suffered tremendously for years? JMHO

I'm sure if you want to donate the money to Bloomfield to buy the land and build a football stadium they would be happy to add football.

Dugger has had football for years and there have been a few years lately that they have barely had enough kids to field a team.

Why? so we can be subject to tradition factor in another sport? Football isn't popular around here, little support, acctually I don't even care for the sport.

So your saying only "real men", play football???

The thought of that makes me want to throw up. I know of another plan that puts center township to Loogootee, Lost River, Halbert to Springs Valley and Mitchelltree to Mitchell. I hope thats the way it should be done, considering the long bus ride to Loogootee from the far areas that are closer to the two previously mentioned schools. Yes let them go east and north, they are lawless no man lands anyway, probably mate with wolves and mountain lions! ;)

Lions and Jugrox merging....now I would PAY to see that in light of the fact that Loogootee has never wanted to acknowledge Shoals as even being in Martin County. In years past that they refused to schedule each other because of a knock-down-drag-out fight between the two schools. But then...LHS also couldn't schedule ND a few years back for similar reasons. Can anyone say...'common denominator' in both situations? I actually think it would be a merger worth watching and laughing.....har har har especially since LHS feels they are sooooooooooooo far above people who live in and around Shoals. Evidence? Look above for verification....plus years worth of comments like it coming out of Loogootee. Personally, I have never seen Shoals fans do anything remotely close to what LHS fans do @ basketball games to degrade and humiliate anyone who is unfortunate enough to have to play them. I have met very few people from Shoals who aren't just good decent down to earth folks so maybe a better option for consolidation is to send Loogootee to SHOALS. After all, SHOALS is the COUNTY SEAT!!!

Not so sure I would go as far as to say football isn't popular in your area. Not long ago a group of LHS patrons fought like the dickens to get football. Jack Butcher was the coach then and strongly opposed its inception so it didn't happen. Football is popular in most any area but that at the same time doesn't mean a school is obligated to participate. Each to their own is my philosophy no right or wrong.

Your doing your damdest to stir the shit, but i'm not taking the bait, acctually the bait would be best used by River rats at Shoals to reel in the Bush Hogs at Barr-Reeve and North Daviess haha!!

Look at it this way, when did you ever see Shoals have a signifcant win outside of last years upset of North Daviess...maybe 1987 when they upset Loogootee at Shoals, but besides that pretty much nothing. When did you ever see a Shoals fan on sites like this? Never cause the disability and welfare checks can't afford a personal PC! Send them to Springs Valley or Mitchell! We'll just succeed the west Martin county into Daviess county.................!!!!!!!!!B)
