  1. Coaching openings 2016-17

Former New Albany JV coach , Matt Lynch , was recently named the Head Coach @ Tell City . Best of luck to coach Lynch .
  2. Coaching openings 2016-17

Only rumors but the 2 guys mentioned above , I had heard . The other 2 names mentioned were a former coach @ Wood Memorial , who is now coaching @ Hancock County & a coach that is @ South Knox . Don't know if this is true , just something I had heard recently .

Add another accomplishment to the already impressive list for Romeo Langford . On Wednesday night , Romeo was named the MVP for the east team in a 114-101 victory in the underclassmen all-American game . After the honor , Romeo found out that on Thursday night that Duke assistants , Jon Scheyer & Nolan Smith were coming to NA's open gym to see him in action .

Totally agree with you basketball Jones ! I would love to see him stay @ New Albany ! He definitely will go down as one of the greatest of all time !
  5. * Led New Albany to a Sectional Championship & a 23-3 record in his 1st Varsity season . * Led New Albany in scoring Freshman season ( 457 points , 17.6 ppg ) * Went over the 1,000 point mark in his career just 19 games into his Sophomore season (45 games) @ E'ville Central . * Led New Albany to the overall #1 ranking in Indiana going into this year's State Tournament (in both coaches & AP Poll ) , the 19th ranked National team according to USA Today , & the 5th ranked team in the Midwest ! * Led New Albany to their only State championship since 1973 with a 62-59 victory over McCutcheon in the 4A title game . New Albany ended 2015-2016 with a 27-1 record & heads into next season with a 24 game winning streak . * In an 11 game stretch from 1/15 to 2/20 , Romeo avg. 32.8 ppg . New Albany avg. 88.4 ppg & gave up 43.8 ppg during stretch . * On 1/16 , Romeo broke the school record with 44 points in 3 quarters with a 113-39 victory over Scottsburg . And just 4 games later , tied his own school record with 44 points in a win @ Jennings County 102-34 in 3 quarters . * On March 19th , Romeo broke his own school record with 46 points ( had 43 going into 4th) , against Southport in Richmond Semi State . A game in which I attended & was the best performance I've ever saw at that level ! The 46 points is tied for the 23rd best performance in a single tournament game in IHSAA history ! * Romeo scored 645 points in 22 regular season games (29.3ppg) , scored 201 points in 6 tournament games (33.5ppg) for a total of 846 points in season . The 846 points also ranks 23rd best in IHSAA history passing Tyler Zeller's 828 points for Washington in 2007-2008 , Jim Ligon's 839 points for Kokomo in 1961-1962 , & Kevin Ault's 844 points for Warsaw in 1995-1996 . * Romeo's 30.2 ppg average ranks 21st all time in IHSAA history in a single season passing Jimmy Rayl of Kokomo & Scott Skiles of Plymouth who both avg. 29.3 ppg . He also passes Jim Ligon of Kokomo & his 29.9 ppg & Kevin Ault of Warsaw , who torched the nets for 30.1 ppg . * Earlier in the year , Romeo led New Albany to an 8 point victory over highly touted Lexington Dunbar in the Indiana/Kentucky Challenge Cup in Frankfort . New Albany was the only team from Indiana to win in Frankfort and was the only team from the South to win a State Championship this season in boys basketball . * Romeo was 1 of only 2 Sophomores that was named to Hoosier Basketball Magazine's Pre-Season 1st team all State this year . The other was Lawrence North's , Kevin Easley . * In his 2 seasons @ New Albany , Romeo has scored 30 or more points in a game 13 times & over 40 points 3 different times . * Romeo has 1,303 points in 54 games & has led New Albany to a 50-4 record in 2 seasons . He moved into 2nd place on the scoring list @ NA passing 19 Bulldog players . Chad Hunter , a 1997 graduate , currently is New Albany's all-time leading scorer with 1,463 points . * Just this week , Romeo was named to the Underclass Supreme 15 All-State Team * After New Albany won the 4A State Title game , on Monday the Bulldogs were selected as 1 of the 4 teams to participate in the 2016 City Securities Hall Of Fame Classic ! Romeo Will lead New Albany to their 3rd appearance in this prestigious tourney on Friday , Dec. 30th against Warsaw in game 2 . Logansport will face Lawrence North in game 1 . *Romeo Langford currently has D1 offers from : IU , Purdue , Butler , IUPUI , Vanderbilt , UCLA , & Louisville . There are many others that are showing tons of interest ! I was fortunate enough to get to see Romeo Langford play 10 times in the past 2 seasons . I am very familiar with New Albany basketball & have seen the Bulldogs play a ton of times since the early 90's . I've seen numerous great players go through New Albany's system & some great New Albany teams . Romeo Langford is @ another level ! He gets better & better each time I see him play . He not only is the best player to come through New Albany but ranks right at the top as far as one of the best players I've ever seen ! The sky is the limit for this young Superstar ! Barring injuries , if he stays @ New Albany (always rumors about going to prep school) , depending how deep of a run NA makes the next couple of seasons , Romeo has an outside chance to be 1 of only 4 players to reach 3,000 points in IHSAA history ! In my opinion , he will no doubt be an Indiana all-star & Mr. Basketball ! Wouldn't totally shock me , depending where he chooses to go to college , that he is a 1 & done ! He is that good ! As I am typing this , it's just hard to believe he has done all of this while only being a Sophomore ! Unbelievable !
  6. Class 1A State Tournament

Here are my 1A picks: Sect. 49 - Gary 21st Century Sect. 50 - Tri-County Sect. 51 - Triton Sect. 52 - FW Blackhawk Sect. 53 - North Vermillion Sect. 54 - Lafayette Central Catholic Sect. 55 - Liberty Christian Sect. 56 - Seton Catholic Sect. 57 - Bloomfield Sect. 58 - Indpls Tindley Sect. 59 - Indpls Arlington Sect. 60 - Jac-cen-del Sect. 61 - Borden Sect. 62 - Christian Academy Sect. 63 - Loogootee Sect. 64 - Wood Memorial Triton Regional The 4 teams I have advancing here are : Gary 21st Century , Triton , Tri-County , & FW Blackhawk . I believe Gary 21st Century has the leading scorer in the State but I don't know much else about them . Triton has had some tradition , so I picked Triton to beat Gary 21st Century in game 1 . Tr-County would have to beat a South Newton team who has 20 wins entering Sectional to get here . FW Blackhawk plays a rugged regular season schedule , so I picked them to beat Tri-County in game 2 & also picked FW Blackhawk to win this Regional despite having a record barely over .500 . Frankfort Regional The 4 teams I have advancing here are : North Vermillion , LCC , Liberty Christian , & Seton Catholic . Because of the tradition & a strong schedule , I have LCC defeating North Vermillion in game 1 . In game 2 , both Liberty Christian & Seton Catholic are having very strong years . I think Liberty Christian beat them during the season & I picked Liberty Christian to beat them again . In the championship game , I picked Liberty Christian to beat LCC . Martinsville Regional The 4 teams I have advancing here are : Bloomfield , Arlington , Indpls Tindley , & Jac-cen-del . Tindley & University pretty much had the same record in their Sectional . I went with Tindley to win it & aslo like Tindley to beat Jac-cen-del in game 1 of this Regional . Matt Britton does a great job @ Bloomfield & I think they are poised to make a deep run this year . I like Bloomfield to beat Arlington in Game 2 & also like Bloomfield to take out Tindley in the championship game . Loogootee Regional The 4 teams I have advancing here are : Loogootee , Borden , Christian Academy , & Wood Memorial . North Daviess has been playing well here as of late & it might be a war in the Loogootee Sectional but I think the Lions get it done on their home floor . However , I like Borden to beat Loogootee in game 2 of the Regional . In game 1 , this is probably going to be another war but I went with Christian Academy to defeat Wood Memorial . It wouldn't surprise me if Wood Memorial won this game it also wouldn't surprise me if Lanesville was here taking the place of Christian Academy . I did pick Christian Academy to defeat Borden in the championship game . Huntington North or Lafayette Jeff Semi State I have Liberty Christian defeating FW Blachawk to represent the North in the State finals . Seymour or Richmond Semi-State I think Bloomfield's great season continues , as I have them advancing over Christian Academy to represent the South in the State finals . 1A State Championship : I think Bloomfield's dream season falls short & Liberty Christian defeats them in a close one !
  7. Class 2A State Tournament

Here are my 2A picks: Sect. 33 - Bowman Academy Sect. 34 - Marquette Catholic Sect. 35 - Westview Sect. 36 - FW Canturbury Sect. 37 - Oak Hill Sect. 38 - Rossville Sect. 39 - Eastern (Greenetown) Sect. 40 - Lapel Sect. 41 - Northeastern Sect. 42 - Indpls Howe Sect. 43 - Covenant Christian Sect. 44 - Cloverdale Sect. 45 - South Ripley Sect. 46 - Providence Sect. 47 - Barr-Reeve Sect. 48 - Forest Park North Judson Regional The 4 teams I have advancing here are : Bowman Academy , MC Marquette , Westview , & FW Canturbury . In game 1 , I like Bowman Academy over MC Marquette & like FW Canturbury in game 2 over Westview . In the championship , I like Bowman Academy to beat FW Canturbury . I just think the teams Bowman plays during the regular season prepares them well to make a deep run ! Lapel Regional The 4 teams I have advancing here are : Oak Hill , Rossville , Eastern(Greenetown), & Lapel . Oak Hill , Eastern(Greenetown) , & Lapel are all having fine years While Rossville would have to upset Seeger to get here . I like Oak Hill in game 1 to defeat Rossville or if Seeger would make it . In Game 2 , I like Lapel over Eastern(Greenetown) . In the championship game , I think Lapel will be too much on their home floor & I like them to defeat Oak Hill . Greenfield Regional The 4 teams I have advancing here are : Covenant Christian , Indpls Howe , Northeastern , & Cloverdale . In game 1 , I like Northeastern to defeat Cloverdale but with the Neese kid , anything could happen . In game 2 , I like Indpls Howe to defeat Covenant Christian for the same reason I like Howe coming out of their Sectional having to beat a Shendoah team with 19 wins . I just think the schedule Howe plays , prepares them well . I like Howe to defeat Northeastern in the championship game as well . Paoli Regional The 4 teams I have advancing here are : South Ripley , Barr-Reeve , Providence , & Forest Park . I think if all 4 of these teams are here , any of them could win it ! Barr-Reeve may have a tough time getting out of their Sectional having to play a South Knox who just beat a very good Pike Central team . Then they would have to tangle with most probably a very good Linton team . Barr-Reeve will have their work cut out for them but I really think losing to a very good Bloomfield team will get them refocused & Coach Hughes will have them ready to possibly make a deep run in 2A . I like Barr-Reeve to beat South Ripley in a good one in game 2 . In game 1 , this is probably a toss up but I think my Rangers will fall short on a last second shot . In the championship , I think the Vikings will get it done & advance over Providence . Huntington North or Lafayette Jeff Semi- State Their record may not show it , but I like Bowman Academy to defeat Lapel & advance to State . Seymour or Richmond Semi State I think Barr-Reeve is poised to get back to State in 2A this time . They are very well coached & very seldom beat themselves . I like Barr-Reeve to beat Indpls Howe in a tight one ! 2A State Championship game : I think Bowman Academy will be too much for Barr-Reeve & they will win it !
  8. Class 3A State Tournament

Here are my 3A picks : Sect. 17 - Griffith Sect. 18 - Twin Lakes Sect. 19 - mishawaka Marian Sect. 20 - Peru Sect. 21- Northwood Sect.22 - New Haven Sect. 23 - Columbia City Sect. 24 - Marion sect. 25 - Lebanon Sect. 26 - Brown County Sect. 27 - Indpls Brebeuf Sect. 28 - Park Tudor Sect. 29 - Greensburg Sect. 30 - Brownstown Sect. 31 - Washington Sect. 32 - E'ville Bosse Kankakee Valley Regional The 4 teams I have advancing here are : Mishawaka Marian , Twin Lakes , Griffith , & Peru . I like mishawaka Marian to win game 1 over Twin Lakes & Griffith to take out Peru in game 2 . I think Griffith will be too strong for Mishawaka Marian & they will win this Regional . Marion Regional The 4 teams I have advancing here are : Northwood , New Haven , Columbia City , & Marion . I have Northwood advancing over New Haven in game 1 . New Haven would have to survive an Angola team that has won 21 games to get here . In game 2 , I have Marion advancing over Columbia City . Marion would have to get by a strong Tipton team that is very well coached by Lou Levere to get here . I have Marion winning their own Regional over Northwood in the championship game . If Marion loses in the Sectional to Tipton , then I think Tipton would win this Regional . Greencastle Regional The 4 teams I have advancing here are : Lebanon , Brown County , Indpls Brebeuf , & Park Tudor . In game 1 , I have Lebanon over Brown County , who would have to upset Edgewood to get here . If Edgewood wins the Brown County Sectional , I still like Lebanon to win that 1st game . In game 2 , I like Park Tudor to beat Brebeuf . Both teams may have a tough time winning their Sectionals . Brebeuf would have to get past Attucks & Park Tudor would have to beat Danville , who is having an outstanding year . I like Park Tudor , who seems to be playing much better now , to beat Brebeuf to win this Regional . Washington Regional The 4 teams I have advancing here are : Greensburg , Brownstown , Washington , & E'ville Bosse . The Greensburg Sectional is down compared to years past I believe . While the Charlestown Sectional has 2 teams that really standout in Brownstown & Silver Creek . I was really impressed with Silver Creekwhen I saw them play New Albany late in the season & they were without their 6-6 post player . He is suppose to be back but I just like Brownstown to win that Sectional . I just like the way Dave Benter handles his team . I have Brownstown taking out Greensburg in game 1 . I picked Washington to win the Southridge Sectional . If they do , they will have earned it ! This Sectional is absolutely loaded & Washington got a very tough draw . Pike Central got the draw to win this but after watching them play , they slipped a couple times & probably expected to win the 2 games late in the season that they lost . Any of 4 teams in the Southridge Sectional : Pike Central , Washington , Jasper , or Vincennes Lincoln could win it . I have Bosse winning the Boonville Sectional . I like Washington to beat Bosse in game 2 @ the Hatchet House . In the championship game , I like Brownstown over Washington . Huntington North or Lafayette Jeff Semi State I like Griffith to beat Marion in a close one . If Tipton faces Griffith , I still think Griffith would win but it would be a great game . Seymour or Richmond Semi State I like Park Tudor to beat Brownstown in a really close game . 3A State Championship : I'll take Griffith in a barnburner over Park Tudor !
  9. Class 4A State Tournament

Here are my 4A Sectional picks : Sect. 1 - East Chicago Central Sect. 2 - Merrillville Sect. 3 - SB Riley Sect. 4 - Warsaw Sect. 5 - FW Carroll Sect. 6 - Homestead Sect. 7 - Mccutcheon Sect. 8- Carmel Sect.9 - Mt. vernon (fortville) Sect. 10 - North Central (Marion) Sect. 11 - Southport Sect. 12 - TH North Sect. 13 - Franklin Central Sect. 14 - Bloomington South Sect. 15 - New Albany Sect. 16 - Evansville Reitz 4A NORTH : MICHIGAN CITY REGIONAL Game 1: Warsaw over SB Riley Game 2: Merrillville over East Chicago Central Championship game : Merrillville over Warsaw 4A NORTH : LOGANSPORT REGIONAL Game 1: FW Carroll over Homestead Game 2: McCutcheon over Carmel 4A SOUTH : SOUTHPORT REGIONAL Game 1: North Central(Marion) over TH North Game 2: Southport over Mt. Vernon(F'ville) Championship game : Southport over North Central(Marion) 4A SOUTH : SEYMOUR REGIONAL Game 1: New Albany over Bloomington South Game 2: E'ville Reitz over Franklin Central Championship game: New Albany over Reitz 4A NORTH SEMI-STATE : Huntington North or Lafayette Jeff McCutcheon over Merrillville 4A SOUTH SEMI-STATE : Seymour or Richmond New Albany over Southport 4A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP : New Albany over Mccutcheon 4A Thoughts : Tough to pick the North part since I haven't seen any of these teams play but it seems like Merrilville , Warsaw , Fort Wayne Carroll , Homestead , & McCutcheon standout the most & you can never count out Carmel . Should be a great Regional @ Michigan City with Merrillville & Warsaw possibly matching up in the C'ship with the 2 being in opposite brackets . In the Logansport Regional , if both teams survive , FW Carroll & Homestead could be a tossup . Believe Homestead beat them earlier in the season but I went with FW Carroll in the morning . I think the winner of the 2nd game between McCutcheon/Carmel would win that Regional . I went with McCutcheon to win it . I also went with McCutcheon to beat Merrillville in the Semi State to represent the North in the State finals . As far as the South goes , Sectional 11 may have one of the best opening round matchups in the State with Southport battling Pike who was the only team to beat New Albany & they did it on Southport's floor . I think the winner of this game should be in the Southport Regional championship game . I went with Southport for 2 reasons : 1.) being on their home floor won't hurt & 2.) they seem to be playing much better with some impressive victories here lately including a win @ E'ville Reitz which isn't easy to do . Didn't really know much about the teams in the New Castle Sectional so I just went with Mt. Vernon (F'ville) but they could get tested by Pendleton Hts or New Castle in the bottom of that bracket or whoever survives the top with Greenfield Central & connersville , who all have decent records . Sectional 10 far & away has to be the toughest Sectional in the State with 5 of the 6 teams with at least 16 wins . You could probably make an All-Star team with the players in this Sectional alone ! Any of those 5 teams would have a legit shot to win the State Championship ! I didn't know who to pick but just looking @ the bracket , Doug Mitchell's North Central Panthers looked like they got the best draw by far & I think they will take advantage of it & not only win this Sectional but win their morning matchup in the Southport Regional who I had TH North winning . The Championship Regional game @ Southport should be a dandy ! I had Southport facing North Central but even if it's Pike against any of those 5 teams with 16+ wins , it could be one of the best in the State ! Just because of the way their playing now & being on their home floor , I picked Southport to win this Regional even though they wouldn't be favored . I'm more familiar with the teams that should be in the Seymour Regional . This should be a great one as well ! New Albany would be the favorite as they are the #1 team in the State but they wouldn't be able to take Bloomington South lightly , who gave them a great game their 1st game of the season but more importantly for Bloomington South , they are playing their best basketball of the season with a nice winning streak going . New Albany got exactly what they needed the last game of the season , & that was a good competitive game against a Bloomington North team that is obviously capable but have struggled with only 7 wins this season . NA won that game 58-52 @ Bloomington North . That may have opened up the Bulldogs eyes just a little bit & they know they have a target on their backs & will get everyone's best shot including Sectional opponents Floyd Central & either Jeff or BNL . I just think that Romeo Langford & the rest of his Bulldog teammates have been waiting for this after what happened last year . I picked NA over Bloomington South in which I think will be a very competitive game & I also picked Reitz over Franklin Central setting up a Regional Championship with NA/Reitz ! This is a matchup of last years morning matchup in which I was there where NA got out to a 17-0 lead only to come up short at the end . NA could have handled the press better & defended the perimeter better but the officiating was very suspect . I'll give Reitz credit , they probably were the better team last year but I think NA is better this year & I picked the Bulldogs to get revenge & finally get over the hump in the Regional . NA would have a very tough time in the Semi-State no matter who they play if they get there . I actually have them playing Southport & it would be very tough to defend the inside with Brunk in there . NA's tallest player is Romeo @ 6-4 but I'm sure Coach Shannon would have a great game plan. I'm sure NA would like to get another chance @ Pike though . Anyways , I picked NA to win the semi-state which would probably be @ Richmond if its New Albany . I doubt the IHSAA would let a team play @ Seymour 3 weeks in a row ! By the way , how they consider Richmond the Southern part of the State or think its fair to have a Semi-State there , is beyond me ! Romeo Langford improved so much from last year & is having an unbelievable Sophomore season & I think if he can get some help , which he has for the most part , then New Albany will not only go to Bankers Life Fieldhouse , but they will win it over McCutcheon ! Will see how much I think I know ! LOL
  10. Romeo Langford

Congratulations to New Albany Sophomore , Romeo Langford . With his 31 point & 10 rebound performance on Tuesday in an 82-39 thrashing of E'ville Central , Romeo collected his 1,000 point in his career ! Romeo has led New Albany to a 40-4 record in 44 games . He avg. 17.6 ppg as a Freshman & led the Bulldogs to a Sectional championship before losing to State runner-up , E'ville Reitz in the Regional semi-final . so far this year , he has led New Albany to a 17-1 record & the #1 ranking in Indiana & the Bulldogs have received recoginition Nationally , ranked #24 & they are ranked #6 in the Midwest Region . Romeo currently averages 30.2 ppg & also leads the team in rebounding , blocks , steals , F/G % & assist . New Albany currently averages 79.3 offensively & gives up 51.9 on the defensive end . The last 11 games , New Albany is 11-0 averaging 86.1 ppg & giving up 48.5 ppg . their only loss was to highly touted , Indpls Pike on Dec.12 by the score of 73-68 . During the 11 game stretch , he averaged 33.0 ppg & he broke the school record with 44 points against Scottsburg on Jan.16th in a 113-39 victory & just 4 games later ,scored 44 again in a 102-34 victory over Jennings County . Both of those games , he played less then 3 quarters . Romeo currently has D1 offers from IU , Purdue , IUPUI , Vanderbilt , Butler , & UCLA with many other schools interested . If you haven't seen him play yet , he is definitely worth the price of admission ! I've seen a lot of great players come out of New Albany in my 26 years of watching high school basketball & not only is he the best player I've seen from New Albany , but in my opinion , he ranks right up there as one of the best I've ever seen in Indiana & it's scary that he is only a Sophomore. I truly think he will be playing in the NBA someday . He is a special player with a good head on his shoulders . Romeo isn't the only player for the Bulldogs having a good season . Jr. , Issaac Hibbard is quietly putting together a good season avg. 16.2 ppg & Sr, Josh Jefferson , is currently averaging 12.1 ppg . New Albany starts 2 sophomores , a junior , & 2 seniors . They usually bring a sophomore off the bench as their 6th man & he also has had some great games . New Albany has a bright future ahead of them considering their 8th grade team went 40-4 while in Junior high . I hear that they have 3 good players but one stands out specifically & that's Julian Hunter . He is the son of 1997 grad & New Albany all-time leading scorer , Chad Hunter . NA has 4 games left in the regular season . They could get tested tonight against rival Providence . It's usually a tough game @ Providence . Their other games are against BNL & then they play on the road against a very good Silver Creek team before ending the season on the road against Bloomington North .
  11. INDIANA/KENTUCKY Challenge Cup

The Indiana schools competed pretty well I thought . They lost the challenge 3-2 with Columbus North Girls winning & New Albany winning . Didn't catch the Wood Memorial game but I believe they lost 55-53 . Only caught the end of the 3rd quarter & all of the 4th quarter in the Jay County vs. Cooper game . Jay County lost 45-37 . New Albany survived against a quick & athletic Lexington Dunbar team 55-47 . New Albany didn't play well missing a bunch of free throws in the 1st half & point blank shots that they normally finish but it was to be expected after the rivalry game against Jeff with a capacity crowd @ the Doghouse on Friday night in which New Albany won easily 86-57 . A game they were ahead by 36 at one point . NA deserves credit against Dunbar though . They did what they had to do in the 4th to win the game . They finally got a few free throws to drop to seal the win . NA didn't get a favorable whistle either . New Albany star , Romeo Langford got picked on a little bit as did a couple of NA's starters but Romeo still ended with 24 points & 7 rebounds . Romeo does it all ! He is long & extremely athletic . He can hit the step back 3 & is about impossible to guard 1-1 driving to the basket . He is a great rebounder & he defends the basket really well . He is just a complete player which is scary only being a Sophomore . What probably is most impressive about him , is he just goes out there and takes care of business & does things the right way . He is very mature for only being a Sophomore & never lets anything bother him . He has a good head on his shoulders & college coaches have to be impressed with that as much as anything . He is a 4* player now & without a doubt , will be a 5* by the time he is done . He is the real deal & he has help too ! New Albany had 6 players in double figures against Jeff & 3 against Dunbar . NA is really fun to watch . As for Forest Park , they lost 72-54 but they competed pretty well for the most part I thought against a quick & athletic Owen County team . They were only down 4 & then Owen County went on a run & got it back to double figures . FP still was only down 9 to start 4th quarter & got good looks from beyond the arc but just couldn't get much too fall . If FP could have hit some those , it could have gotten very interesting . OC's D1 & Northern Kentucky recruit , Carson Williams , was quick & athletic . He was an extremely good rebounder & shot blocker & he could handle the ball well with his 6-7 frame . He wasn't a very good free throw shooter & I didn't think he was a great shooter in general but he could finish around the basket & made his teammates around him better . He liked to drive to the basket a lot . What hurt FP the most IMO , was their perimeter defense . They had to concentrate on Williams a lot so their guards were open quite a bit & they took advantage of it , especially Chad McDonald . He came in avg. around 12.5 ppg & hit 4 3's right off the bat . Not sure what he ended up with ? And then when FP was on offense , Owen County's Vince Toftness would release & cherry pick & he got a lot of layups . It was in the scouting report that he did that , they just didn't get back . FP actually did a nice job on Carson Williams but their guards hurt them & Toftness got to the basket quite easily as well. FP Sophomore , Sam Englert & Senior , David Lusk played well for Forest Park . It was a good opponent to play . FP won't face any team better in the rest of the regular season I don't believe & it only prepares them down the road . Wood Memorial & Owen County got the spirit award & each of those schools received $500 . Congrats to the Trojans & the Rebels on that . I don't know what kind of a crowd was there early in the afternoon but with the exception of Owen County in the evening , I really didn't think there was a great crowd. I would guess that getting the spirit award , Wood Memorial would have had a decent crowd . Owen County is only located about a 1/2 away from Franfort so I could see them having a good crowd . New Albany has had great crowds all year from what I have heard . Their crowd was ok but nothing spectacular . They should have had more only being an 1 hour away . Dunbar didn't have many , Jay County & Cooper didn't have many , & FP crowd wasn't great either . FP probably had the least amount . FP is having a decent year but their crowds haven't really been that good all year for whatever reason . As far as running the tourney , I didn't think they did a great job . They spelled Forest with 2 R's in the program & had them Forest Park from Indianpolis & the announcer kept on saying they were from Indianapolis ! Before you print programs & want to run a tourney like that , make sure you get the information correct . Talk to somebody from the schools for heaven sakes ! Forest Park is located an 1 hour North of Evansville & is 3 hours from Indy .
  12. Here is the schedule for Saturday's games Game 1: Columbus North (15-0) vs. Franklin County, KY (10-1) Girls game 12:00 Game 2: Wood Memorial (8-3) vs. Madison Southern, KY (10-5) Boys game 2:00 Game 3: Jay County (4-3) vs. Cooper , KY (12-1) Boys game 4:00 Game 4: New Albany (7-1) vs. Lexington Dunbar , KY(13-3) Boys game 6:00 Game 5: Forest Park (8-2) vs. Owen County ,(12-2) KY Boys game 8:00 WOOD MEMORIAL vs. MADISON SOUTHERN I haven't seen Wood Memorial play this year , so I don't know much about them except they are currently 8-3 & I understand they are fighting the injury bug . Seems as though they are having a good season so far . The Trojans are avg. 51.2 ppg while giving up 44.5 . Wood Memorial will be tested vs. Madison Southern who is currently 10-5 . Madison Southern lost their 1st 3 games of the season but since has reeled off 10 wins in their last 12 games . They also have been bitten by the injury bug . 2 of their players have missed 8 games & the other has missed 6 games but all 3 are back now . Diontray Dean & Tre McCreath really hasn't done much scoring for them but Stacy Burns , who missed 6 games , does avg. 6.8 ppg . Madison Southern avg's 69.5 while giving up 62 . They have a balanced attack led by Caleb Miller's 15.5 ppg . The other top players are : Tanner Kidwell (13.9ppg) , Michael Jefferson (11.3ppg) , & Griffen Gabbard (9.7ppg). Other then Burns 6.8 , no other player gets more then 4.8 & that's Brandon Sargent . JAY COUNTY vs. COOPER Don't really know much about the Jay County team either except they were 18-7 last year & led the State in defensive avg. @ 33.1 ppg . They are currently 4-3 on the season avg. 50.7 & giving up 43.3 . They do have their top 2 returning scorers from last year back in 6-4 Sr. Adam Dirksen(11.5ppg last year) & 6-1 Jr. Jay Houck(10.8ppg last year) . Sounds like they may have their hands full as well . Cooper is currently 12-1 . They are avg. 60.8 ppg & giving up 50.8 ppg . Their top 2 players are : Sean McNeil (17.7ppg) & Adam Kunkel (16.4ppg) . Dante Hendrix & Chris McNeil avg. 6.8 & 5.8 . Trevor Rahlman adds 4.4 ppg . NEW ALBANY vs. LEXINGTON DUNBAR This game may be the premier matchup of the day . New Albany is currently 7-1 & ranked #3 in 4A & Lexington Dunbar is 13-3 & also ranked #3 in KY . New Albany avg's 69 ppg & gives up 58 ppg while Dunbar avg's 68.8 ppg & gives up 56.1 ppg . Dunbar is led in scoring by Taveion Hollingsworth @ 22 per contest . He has had some huge games of 40,35,33,32,28,& 25 but was also held to 2 points in a game . He gets help from 2 other double figure scorers in Darius Williams (17.5) & Jordan Lewis (10.3). Williams has had some huge games of his own with 33,31,28, & 26 . 3 other players for Dunbar gets between 4.6 & 5.6 . Dontell Brown(5.6), Justin Kelley(5.1), & Vincent Clark(4.6). New Albany will try to counter with 3 of their own double figure scorers led by Soph. Romeo Langford's 26.1 ppg . Langford has had games of 31,30,29,28 twice, & 26 . Langford has already gotten offers from IU, Purdue , Butler , IUPUI , Vanderbilt , & UCLA . The other 2 double figure scorers are Jr. Isaac Hibbard ,who has been making his presence felt since he was a Freshman . He gets 15.7 ppg . The other is Sr. Josh Jefferson @ 13.6 ppg . The Bulldogs get scoring occasionally from Michael Maxwell , Adrien Pratt-Thomas, & Rondell Moore. The latter 2 are more known for their defense. A key in this one will be what New Albany has left in the tank after they host their biggest rival Jeffersonville on Friday night . Another key could be that Lexington Dunbar has already played 16 games ! FOREST PARK vs. OWEN COUNTY Forest Park could have the biggest challenge of any Indiana teams ! The Rangers are having a very nice season thus far at 8-2 & they are winners of 5 straight including a PSC Holiday tourney Championship but I doubt they have seen anyone close to as good as this Owen County from what I've been hearing . The Rangers come in averaging 60.1 ppg & give up 55.6 per contest . Owen County avg's 71.4ppg & gives up 53.7 ppg . Owen County is currently 12-2 . They are led by Mr. Basketball Candidate & Northern Kentucky signee , Carson Williams . Williams gets 24.6 ppg & grabs 10.5 rpg . He became Owen County's all-time leading scorer 11 games into his Jr. season last year & led the State in rebounding . I've read articles where some think Owen County has a legit shot to win a State Title this year in the single class system . That's impressive for a school of around 550 or so . Williams gets plenty of help from Vince Toftness (14.5ppg), Chad McDonald (12.5ppg), & Michael Dunaway (7.0ppg). Blaine Forsee adds 4.7ppg . Owen County's opponents have a combined record of 91-95 but they have beaten a couple of really good teams & had L'ville Trinity(13-2) down 13 points in the 2nd half before Trinity went on a 20-0 run to win by 7 . Trinity has played Lexington Dunbar twice this season I believe & split with them . Owen County is shooting 63% from 2 pt. range (225-357)& from 3-pt. range , they are shooting 38.3% (99-258). They are shooting 69% from the charity stripe(129-186). For Forest Park , they currently have 3 players averaging in double figures , led by Sophomore Sam Englert's 15.4 ppg . Sr. Ben Wendholt gets 14.9 ppg & Sr. David Lusk scores 10.8 per contest . Daniel Lusk , Trevor Zink , & Noah Fleck (all Sophomores) add 5.9 , 4.5 , & 4.4 respectively for the Rangers . Should be an interesting day of High School basketball @ the Civic Center this Saturday in Frankfort . A lot of good teams & good players it sounds like . I'm looking forward to making the trip but 1st will make a pit stop to New Albany on Friday evening to watch one of the best & oldest rivalries in the State in New Albany/Jeffersonville .
  13. It's always fun to read what fans think about their teams play so far & what they expect heading into the New Year ! If you could , kind of talk about how your team is performing (good as expected or disappointment), top players or surprise players(doing more or less then expected) , best player you have seen play (whether from your team or another team) , best team you have seen so far , best team you expect to see the rest of the regular season , final prediction of your teams record in regular season , what your team needs to work on to get better , & how far you think your team can go in the tournament ? TEAMS PERFORMANCE : For Forest Park , they are playing about how I expected them to . At this point , I thought they would be 6-3 with losses to Washington , Jasper , & South Spencer . They are 7-2 on the season with losses to Washington & Jasper . They did beat South Spencer in the 2nd round of PSC tourney & go on to win the championship against Crawford County in a nail biter ! TOP PLAYERS OR SUPRISE PLAYERS : Forest Park's top players this season are Sr. Ben Wendholt (15.6ppg), Sr. David Lusk (10.1ppg), & Soph. Sam Englert (16.1ppg) . All 3 of these players can do more then score but Sam Englert has to be the most surprised player . Even though it is his 1st Varsity season , I was hoping he would be able to get between 7 & 9 ppg . He has done way more then that & will have to continue for FP to have a successful season . He is 6-4 & is a good athlete that can finish around the basket & he is a good free throw shooter . He has been consistant for the most part only having really 1 bad game against Washington . BEST PLAYER I'VE SEEN : I wasn't able to make the Washington game ( I was told they were pretty impressive). I'd say the best player I've seen so far this year has been Jasper's Tyler Nottingham . Jasper has some bigs that make them tough to defend but Tyler is the spark that makes Jasper go ! He can shoot the 3 , he can drive to the basket , he has a mid range jump shot , & he makes his teammates around him better ! Jasper wouldn't be near the team without him . BEST TEAM I'VE SEEN: Again , didn't get to go to the Hatchet House , so I would definitely say that Jasper is the best team I have seen so far . BEST TEAM I EXPECT TO SEE : I will be heading to New Albany on Friday , January 8th to watch New Albany & Jeffersonville & then on Saturday will be heading to Frankfort, KY for the Kentucky/Indiana Challenge Cup . I know there will obviously be some really good temas & players in that , including highly touted Lexington Dunbar who New Albany will face & highly ranked Owen County , who Forest Park will face . Heard a lot of good things about how good Marcus Williams is from Owen County . He is a Mr. Basketball candidate & also looking forward to seeing the Hollingsworth kid from Dunbar & his 25.9 ppg but I'm really anxious to see how much better Sophomore Sensation , Romeo Langford , is from New Albany . He avg. 17.1 ppg as a Freshman & led the team in about every category . This year , he is avg . around 26ppg & is an outstanding rebounder , passer , & shot blocker from what I've been told . He was probably the best Freshman I've seen in a very long time last year ! WHAT YOUR TEAM NEEDS TO WORK ON TO GET BETTER : I think Forest Park will be fine on the offensive end for the most part , even though I think they could shoot it from the outside a little better . The one thing that I think needs to be worked on is the half court defense . It's been good at times but it has also disappeared at times . I think by seasons end , if not sooner , they will get it fixed . I would also like to see Daniel Lusk be able to stay on the floor more . For a Sophomore , he knows the game really well & needs to be on the floor in the backcourt helping his brother run the offense . As the season goes along , he will be fine I hope . FINAL PREDICTION IN REGULAR SEASON : Forest Park has a tough schedule that lies ahead & as long as they don't get blown out in many of those games & gain experience , it can only help them come tourney time ! Because of the tough schedule , Forest Park will definitely lose some games & if they hit hard times , they could lose 10 of the last 14 if not careful ! They could also win 10 of those 14 if they played really well ! I'd say to be on the safe side , they are more then likely to finish 7-7 the rest of the way for a final regular season record of : 14-9 . HOW FOR CAN THEY GO IN THE TOURNEY : Well , I think if Forest Park can stay healthy , get the scoring & consistency from Ben Wendholt , David Lusk , & especially Sam Englert & improve on the defensive end in the halfcourt , then I don't think it is out of the question for them to bring Head Coach Jeff Litherland his 1st Sectional title back home to Ferdinand . It's hard to say beyond that since I really haven't seen the other teams that would feed into that Regional (by the way, whiched moved to Paoli this year). If I would have to guess , I'd say they would have a tough time in Regional competition if they advanced that far with the likes of Barr Reeve or Linton , probably Providence , & perhaps South Ripley but you never know what your going to get or see past Sectional !

Its a long season so you never know what will eventually happen but another plus for South Spencer is they play good defense . You do that night in & night out , you always have a chance . That 2A Regional could be loaded ! You could have either Barr-Reeve or Linton & I believe Eastern Greene is also in that Sectional & they are off to a good start . Then you have in Sectional 48 , South Spencer & Forest Park . Forest Park has a tough schedule so they will lose some games but it will also get them ready for the tourney & I do think they can play with South Spencer . Mater Dei , I hear , hasn't looked very good so far but they are also without their 6'9" 299lb. Freshman & I'm sure that could make a huge difference for them when he is healthy . Not sure what type of injury he has ? I hear Providence also has a pretty solid team . They started 5 Sophomores last year I believe . Then the other Sectional winner that feeds into that Regional would most probably feature either South Ripley or North Decatur . Believe South Ripley handled them pretty easy already this season but it was early obviously . Any way you look at it , there will be 4 solid teams in that Regional & whoever comes out of there , will definitely deserve it !

Stallings is the engine that makes South Spencer go . He plays with a lot of energy & is a beast on the boards . South Spencer has a lot of guys playing really well right now which makes them a tough team to beat . It will be interesting to see just how many games in the regular season they win if they can stay healthy ? It wouldn't surprise me at all if they do win at least 20 & maybe more .
